I've been developing hydrophobia (as in. universe. not rabies symptom LOL) since early 2021 so there's a shitton of subplots and characters and i'm not telling allat sorry... wait for the comic mwah
Warning for (maybe not here but in general for the story):
- themes of fictional racism/xenophobia
- themes of war (incl. bombings/shellings)
Hydrophobia is set in alternate world, habitated by anthropomorphic carnivore mammals instead of humans (and uh. they call themselves humans for the sake of simplicity for me), who can be divided into hyrts and loanians, humans with mutations which manifest into developing scales (fish or reptile), plumage, gills or horns by the late end of puberty; the latter are outnumbered and, in some places, systemically persecuted.
The main events happen in Overri, country largely inhabited by smaller felines, infamous for their poor treatment of loanians, and are centered about two generations, represented by Ziwa 'Bee' Paem and her mother, Iker 'Heather' Paem.
Ziwa is a security manager in MediV, govermental media company (mainly covering the national news but not limited to it), trying to recover after a fallout with her employer, Vyron Khiat, and stay afloat, as Iker disappears into thin air. Dissatisfied with detectives hired to find her failing, Ziwa takes the matters into own hands. Eventually, she finds a (planted?) notebook with hints from Iker, all pointing to the base, a off-grid organisation of people who disagree with Overri's politics.
Ziwa hires Ri Keaur, her ex-professor, known in some circles for previously organizing operations to neutralize the base, and goes on a search for her mother, believing she might still come back. But, as she interacts with rebels more and more, she begins doubting her place in this world.
Perhaps it's her chance to change things.
